Light, like love, is an omnipresence that we simply can't live without.

Light, like love, is an omnipresence that we simply can't live without.

Even if you are not a romantic, Valentines Day does subconsciously make you think of the warmer fuzzier things in life. It is integral that we all admit to one another that we share one special lover.

A lover who is the air that we breathe, a lover who walks with us, keeps us rounded, makes the sunshine on our faces. A lover who climbs every mountain with us. A lover who comforts us with stormy weathers, and who, just before we lose all hope in winter gives us the wonderful blossoms of spring.

Yes folks, you've guessed it. Our lover is mother earth!

I don't need to tell you that it is our responsibility to protect and nurture her, like she has done for us. It is integral that we cut down on our electricity usage, starting with the things we need the most, and switching off the ones that we don’t. Not only will you show mother earth that you love her, but also your Eskom bill. Now isn’t that a double whammy!!!

Also remember that we sometimes treat the things that we love wrong. Not every low-energy light solution is the right solution for you. Pick it carefully- like a lover.

As an institution that promotes the ethical use of lighting we want to pose the following question to you:

Are you going to add to load shedding tonight, or are you going to love mother earth and eat by candle light?
